BREAKERMATIC PFN Modules are compact devices with all the functionality of traditional protectors, equipped with quick connectors to facilitate assembly on the production line of commercial refrigerators and chillers.

They are designed to be incorporated as an original part into refrigeration equipment with compressors up to 1 HP at 110 VAC and 2 HP at 220 VAC. They can be used in refrigeration and freezing equipment such as bottle racks, horizontal and/or vertical display cases, visicoolers, etc. They are connected via Fast-on terminals, which facilitates assembly on the production line.

Operation

PFNs protect by disconnecting and shutting down the equipment if the steady-state voltage is above the high cut-off voltage or below the low cut-off voltage indicated in the specifications. The response time to a fault is typically 1.5 s. The voltage must remain outside the range longer than the response time for the disconnection to be activated. The PFN signals a voltage fault condition with a red indicator light. The fault signal remains on until the voltage returns to the allowable voltage range.

Once the fault disappears, the PFN initiates a delay-on or wait cycle to allow pressures within the cooling circuit to stabilize. The duration of the wait cycle is indicated in the specifications. A yellow indicator labeled "wait cycle" will remain on during the fault and during the delay-on after the fault.

The wait cycle will also be initiated when a power outage is detected.

At the end of the wait cycle, the PFN will turn on the equipment to be protected, activating the output. When the output is on and the voltage is normal, a green indicator indicates this condition.

The PFN reduces the standby cycle to 5 seconds when it has been de-energized for more than 10 minutes. This feature is known as Autostart.
